Description

Titled The Plays of William Shakespeare, accurately printed from the text of the corrected copies, left by the late George Stevens, Esq. and Edmond Malone, Esq. with a sketch of his life, and a glossary. The book printed in London England by a large number of printers in 1826. The binding is done in purple Levant leather. Please note that the spelling used in this book and on the title page are spelled without the e after the s in the sir name. Also George Stevens has an added an editions e to his sir name.

This very fine fore-edge painting depicting William Shakespeare center, with Propero “conjuring up a tempest“ representing the play The Tempest on the right side. On the left side we have Hamlet speaking to the ghost of his father on the ramparts of Elsinore Castle. Both tragedy and comedy are incorporated into the painting.
